Mrs. Rayman's Advanced Math
Sixth Grade Advanced Mathematics features content aligned with the Michigan Department of Education 6th and 7th grade level content expectations. The course will move at a faster pace and delve deeper into mathematical concepts. It is designed to prepare students for 7th Grade Math Plus and Algebra I in 8th Grade (successful completion of Algebra I meets high school graduation requirements).

6th Grade Topics:
- Calculate conversions and order values on a number line for fractions, decimals, and percents.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, decimals, and positive/negative numbers.
- Use and understand the purpose of rates and ratios in real life situations.
- Solve simple linear functions (y = mx) using tables, equations, and graphs.
- Use verbal models to write expressions and equations with variables.
- Use the Order of Operations to solve one and two step equations.
- Manipulate two dimensional shapes and understand the relationship of angles (interior and exterior).
- Understand congruence and make transformations of figures on a coordinate grid.
- Calculate surface area and volume in two dimensional and three dimensional shapes.

7th Grade Topics:
- Understand and solve problems involving rates, ratios, and proportions.
- Develop computational fluency with rational numbers.
- Understand and apply directly proportional relationships and relates to linear relationships.
- Understand and represent linear functions (y = mx + b) using tables, equations, and graphs while developing the concept of constant increase and constant decrease.
- Simplify and manipulate expressions and equations describing contextual situations to solve meaningful problems.
- Use geometric constructions to better understand aspects of lines and angles; scale geometric shapes to develop an understanding of similarity.
